Only a few days ago, fellow CCforP photographer, Alice Keeney, and I traveled to Ft. Jackson, S.C., where we documented the new and improved Army Basic Training.

We both shot stills and video. I used my Nikon D3s to shoot all of the video and my Nikon D3 to shoot the stills. We also had a Marantz PMD 660 audio recorder with Sennheiser Evolution G3 100 mics to capture interviews and a Sennheiser shotgun mic to catch ambient sounds.
Wearing a pair of noise canceling headsets when recording audio is a must. I use a pair of Sony MDR-NC50. You can see Alice wearing a pair below...

Alice has mad-skills behind the camera. She's equipment savvy, sharp as a tack and high energy. The only downfall about having Alice is she shoots Canon! LOL! That's alright, I'll convince her to switch shortly... In all seriousness, I really enjoyed doing this project with her and look forward to doing many more too.
It was also refreshing to work with someone who didn't know squat about how the military operates. I spent a lot of time laughing at her because she was like a child seeing things for the first time. It made things fresh and exciting. She even got a thrill out of running the live-fire range course. LOL! Good times.
Here are some of the pictures I made during the trip to Ft. Jackson. I have not cropped or toned any of them. I shot in Camera RAW and exported them as JPEGS through Lightroom...
We shot at all times of day. From before sunrise to after sunset. We shot physical training...
Took pictures inside the digital firing range...
Caught drill sergeants yelling at new Soldiers...
Observed plenty of standing around in lines... LOL!
We even got to photograph the new close quarters combat training that basic trainees are doing. Pretty high speed stuff.
Ft. Jackson is the first of the Army basic training sites to implement this new set of training guidelines. It was nice to be the first group to document it!
The multimedia piece is finished and ready for viewing. However, I am waiting to release it for a few days so stay tuned.
More to come,
Stacy
