Day 10 of Picture-A-Day 2010

Ten days down and several more to go. It's Sunday and we're just about to start a new work week. I hope all of you had a very good weekend. I know Andy is pleased because his Cowboys won their game last night. I'm happy because I got to spend the day with my friend and fellow photographer,
Ashley Brokop. Tomorrow is the Charleston Center for Photography's free Second Monday Lecture Series. I always look forward to those. Plus, I have a new intern starting first thing tomorrow morning.

Andy used a 400mm lens with a 1.4 converter, which then makes the lens a 550mm lens. We both concede that to photograph such small birds one needs a much larger piece of glass. However, considering that the 400mm lens is the largest we have at home, he did a good job. He set his Nikon D3 to Aperture Priority and his exposure was ISO 400, F-4 and 1/3000 shutter speed. He also used the exposure compensation button to under exposure his image slightly. We have a Manfrotto monopod, which he used to stabilize the big lens.

Meanwhile, spent my day in Columbia, S.C., helping my girlfriend and very talented wedding photographer, Ashley Brokop, with her bridal fair booth. So, I looked to my environment for inspiration. She had this really cool wall full of her pictures from various weddings. I found the pattern they created to be very graphic. So a snapped a few frames. Despite everything else I shot, I liked this frame the most. I took advantage of the Nikon D3s's incredible high ISO range by setting the camera to ISO 1600. This gave me the opportunity to use a faster shutter speed. I had my camera set to Aperture Priority at F-2.8 and 1/125 shutter speed.

Here is
Ashley's fun bridal fair booth. It looked like a little living room with all of Ashley's beautiful books, albums, canvases and prints. She's very good at what she does and I'm so proud of her. Here's a fun factoid.... We served in the military together. What's more, we served in a special combat unit called 1st Combat Camera. We've been devoted friends and colleagues since. Both Her husband, Bill, and my husband, Andy, are still active duty military and are both Master Sergeants! For those of you who are into wedding photography, Ashley has a great blog. Check it out HERE.
